Blurb

Brittany has gone viral. And not in a good way.

Celebrity chef Brittany Cole has it all. Fame, success, and the perfect family. From her restored Vermont farmhouse, she's built a wholesome brand that is trusted by millions.

But when her four-year-old has a meltdown, a video of Brittany shouting at the little girl goes viral. It’s a PR nightmare that threatens to destroy Brittany’s squeaky-clean image—and her career.

And it’s about to get so much worse.

More videos of Brittany abusing her daughter are released and #bitchmom trends within hours. But Brittany knows something truly terrifying: none of these new videos are real. Someone out there is trying to destroy her with deepfakes. Someone who has been watching her home, her studio, her marriage.

As more damning videos surface, Brittany's perfect life unravels. Her sponsors flee. Her husband files for divorce. And then, when someone close to her is murdered, the police start asking questions Brittany can't answer.

Her only hope is to find out who is behind this campaign to destroy her. Because it’s clear that they don’t just want to ruin her life—they want to end it.

My Thoughts

Having thoroughly enjoyed the author's previous novels, I was delighted to be invited to take part in this blog tour. I couldn't wait to dive into another of their gripping psychological thrillers.

The blurb offers just enough intrigue to draw you in without revealing too much. At its heart, the novel explores the increasingly relevant themes of artificial intelligence, deepfakes, and digital manipulation. One of the most striking aspects of the novel is its exploration of how easily AI-generated images and videos can destroy a person's life. The emotional and social consequences ripple throughout the story, with blackmail, broken trust, fractured family dynamics, and harsh public judgement combining to create a tense, thought-provoking thriller.

The characters are well developed, with Brittany taking centre stage. She initially appears to be driven by her career and public image, often at the expense of those closest to her. Her strained relationship with her daughter is particularly emotional, and I found myself hoping they could repair the growing distance between them. However, as more of the story is revealed, my opinions of Brittany constantly shifted, adding another layer of complexity to her character. The family tensions are heightened further through her relationships with her husband and mother-in-law, creating an atmosphere filled with conflict and uncertainty.

The pacing is excellent throughout, with the story moving quickly while steadily building suspense. There are plenty of moments of manipulation and deception that kept me questioning who could be trusted and what would happen next.

Packed with twists, unexpected revelations, and plenty of drama, this is a captivating thriller that kept me engaged from beginning to end. If you enjoy suspenseful stories that tackle timely and relevant issues, this is one I would certainly recommend.
