Review

I adored Evie's character and wanted to just give her a hug, this book didn't disappoint as its full of humour, love and heartbreak. Apparently this is the 3rd book in the series however I felt it held well as a standalone and I wasn't lost in any part of it.

Set just after the second world word and in Liverpool we get to meet Evangeline O'Leary (Evie) and her family. The family always make do and consider the best out of any situation. One day her mother just disappears, her other siblings believe she may be dead however gossip in the neighbourhood suggests she has eloped with another man. Evie is trying to make sense of the situation and to support her family decides once she has left education she gets a job in a sugar factory.

We learn that Evie's childhood sweetheart is Frankie and they develop a romantic relationship. As luck would have it Frankie and his family immigrate to Canada. Poor Evie, stuck with emotions bigger than she can handle, why does this keep happening to her. It pulled on my heart strings as this was another love in her life that has left her. Soon after Evie finds out she is pregnant. You could almost see the courage and heartbreak she felt as found the confidence to confide in her father.

I wish her father was more supportive however he provides Evie with an ultimatum, she weds the first person who agrees or she lets her auntie adopt the baby.  Evie is heartbroken, she doesn't want the same life as her parents nor that for her unborn child. She finds herself homeless and with the nuns

What decisions is Evie going to make. Will Evie finally get her happy ending.
I'm not going to give away any spoilers as you just need to read this book as it is mesmerising.
