Many thanks to the publishing team and Random Things Tour for the book for an honest review

Blurb

My name is Jensen is a brilliant debut and the author in full possession of the crime writing craft. Heidi Amsinck is hopefully here to stay. Yrsa Sigurdardottir

Guilty.

One word on a beggar’s cardboard sign.

And now he is dead, stabbed in a wintry Copenhagen street, the second homeless victim in as many weeks.

Dagbladet reporter Jensen, stumbling across the body on her way to work, calls her ex lover DI Henrik Jungersen.

As, inevitably, old passions are rekindled, so are old regrets, and that is just the start of Jensen’s troubles.

The front page is an open goal, but nothing feels right…..

When a third body turns up, it seems certain that a serial killer is on the loose.

But why pick on the homeless?

And is the link to an old murder case just a coincidence?

With her teenage apprentice Gustav, Jensen soon finds herself putting everything on the line to discover exactly who is guilty …

My Thoughts

As soon as I read the blurb I knew this book for me and it certainly did not disappoint. I've not delved into scandi noir before but glad I have done.

The essence of the story lies when Jensen who is a journalist and find the body of Casper buried in deep snow in Copenhagen. A few more bodies start to appear of homeless people. Jensen is adamant to add depth to the story as she wants to know more about Casper and the other and what was his life was like before the ended up on the streets. In doing so, this leads to Jensen travelling to different locations and talking to lots of people and also leaving her with lots of questions and not all make sense.

Jensens character is all but straightforward and I loved that. Not all may find that they warm to her straightaway but I feel It really did relate to human emotions in real time; she was determined, fiesty, stubborn and always on a mission. The other characters we meet along the way add to Jensens complex being and relationships, such as; Aziz, Gustav and Esben to name a few. I really liked the tension between Jenson and Detective Henrik, it kept me second guessing all the way through.

It is such a well written book, I felt I was following Jensen and walking the streets of Copenhagen. With such viid dialogue of cake and coffee, think I'll add it my list of places to visit. I am really hoping there were will be either a follow up book or a series as there was a few unanswered questions and I really want to get to know Jensen a-lot more.
