This Christmas will be the most special of them all...

Elderly widow Sabine knows this will be her last Christmas in her beloved home, Mitras Castle. Determined to make it just like the ones she remembers from her childhood, she employs Dido Jones of Heavenly Houseparties to help with the big day.

Dido is enchanted by the castle as soon as she steps through the imposing front door. And as Christmas day approaches, her feeling of connection to the old house runs deeper than she first thought. But when the snow begins to fall and Sabine's family arrive at the house - including Dido's teenage crush Xan - tensions rise around the castle's future and long-buried mysteries begin to unravel...

As past secrets come to light, can this still be a magical Christmas to remember?

My Thoughts

Whenever I read Trisha Ashley books I know I am in for a treat and this has not disappointed.
It was heart-warming and tugs at the heart all in one go.

Sabine's character was well developed and it was interesting to read. On the exterior she appears to be sharp and angry at everyone yet deep down she just wants to be loved and is actually really sweet. The story wasn't as straightforward as I assumed and once you started to get into it start to see the links. You soon start to put the pieces together and realise inviting a few people wasn't just a coincidence it was perfect timing due to the castles future and Sabines plan. As you read more you unearth some secrets that have been kept safe in the castle, interesting books and letters have surfaced that cause more complications. I loved the description on Mitras castle, so detailed and magical, I just wanted to be transported there.

What I really liked about the way it was written, I took away that it was character driven with Sabine rather than a-lot of focus on the plot. Therefore it is a slower paced booked but it fits perfectly to the narrative as it is one of them winter cosy reads. It also led to the build up on Christmas rather than the focus all on Christmas day, which was another element I liked as it then didn't take away from the story. A well rounded book with mystery and romance, all wrapped up in the festive season.
