What happens when the perfect family trip becomes the perfect nightmare?
Cara is a devoted mother to two little girls. She loves her hectic life, but she looks forward to a relaxing weekend alone while her husband, Michael, takes the kids on a camping trip.
But their dream trip turns into a nightmare when their daughters are taken, deep in the forest.
One is returned safe. But one is still missing.
As Cara and Michael frantically search for their little girl it becomes clear that this is no random abduction – her disappearance is linked to shocking secrets which are only now being revealed.
And Cara begins to wonder how well she really knows her husband. Is the stress making her paranoid? Or is she finally seeing him as he really is?
Time is running out. How far will Cara go to find her daughter?
My Thoughts
Suspenseful and perfect for a cold winter evening. My first read from the author and it was brilliant.
The story is told from from two prescriptive of Cara and Micheal. You do get inside there minds and what makes them tick and how each other thinks doesn't always translate in real time. My opinion of Micheal did change as I go towards the end of the book and Im sure other readers will to0.
Laura and Olivia are both Michael's daughters but Laura is from his first marriage and his then wife died. So Cara is now raising both girls as her own. When Laura wants a chilled weekend to herself, Micheal decides to take the girls camping, Whilst they have set up at the camp sight, Laura has left bear behind. Micheal goes to the car to search for it and the girls promise they will stay inside the tent. At home Cara is shaken up by thinking someone is in her yard but it is not the first time she has seen this man. When she spots bear at home she knows she has to go down to the camp sight. Both Cara and Micheal end up meeting near the car, and Cara is not happy he left the girls on their own. When the reach they area, the girls are nowhere to be found. After a harrowing search, with one daughter being found the other is still missing. Cara decides to take matters in her own hands and opens a can of worms and some good twists. There is a big twist at the end and I didn't see it coming, I thought it would side track the story but it didn't at all.
It is not a long read so I got through it quick and enjoyed the character development and some unexpected twists and turns that came through. It flowed smoothly too and didn't feel disjointed.
A fast paced read and with a good plot.
