Blurb

Nobody can get into the mind of an erratic killer―except an unpredictable detective.

When a young man is found lying on a station platform with a hole in his head, DI Kate Young is called in to investigate the grisly murder.

But the killing is no one-off.

As bodies start to pile up, she is faced with what might be an impossible task―to hunt down a ruthless killer on a seemingly random rampage.

Meanwhile, Kate has her own demons to battle as she struggles to come to terms with her husband’s death. And she is hell-bent on exposing corruption within the force and bringing Superintendent John Dickson to justice.

But with the trail of deception running deeper―and closer to home―than she could ever have imagined, she no longer knows who she can trust.

With her grip on reality slipping, Kate realises that maybe she and the killer are not so different after all. But time is running out and Kate is low on options.

Can she catch the killer before she loses everything?

My Thoughts

This is the 3rd book in the series. I wish I had read the first 2 as I did get lost in the backstory of some of the characters so took me a while to understand it a bit better. But nonetheless this book holds its own unique plot line so I wasn't too worried and there were summary points too.

We meet Kate Young who is a DI at the Special Crimes Unit. Her husband Chris is murdered and Kate wants to get to the bottom of it. She suspects her superintendent is behind a-lot of wrong ongoings so needs to put together proof  at high risk.  She has lots of dead ends and comes to a point where she feels she can trust no-one. You can see Kate spiralling as she is trying to do her best in her professional role but also grieving the loss of the her husband.
Alongside this, Kate comes across a few murders, all similar but lots of differences and soon the team realise there is a serial killer on the loose. Kate works alongside her partners, Emma and Morgan to find out who is behind the murders. It was nice to read how the characters develop and the change in dynamics of relationships. We delve further in knowing Kate and she deals or not with the situations that arise.

I really enjoyed that there were lots of twists and red herrings along the way before we learn the final conclusion.  Very thrilling and gruesome to read! The book was also narrated from a few different voices including Kate and Emma.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it and grateful to you for sharing your thoughts.
Thanks for cheering up a dull and wet Wednesday xx
