In every person’s story, there is something to hide...

From award-winning author Sulari Gentill comes a mischievous, twisty crime novel in the vein of Only Murders in the Building and White Lotus.

Four strangers in the Reading Room at Boston Public Library are introduced by a scream. Caught up in the subsequent murder investigation, each one finds themselves revealing more than they intended about their pasts as they race to solve the murder before one of them gets hurt.

Whilst their stories unfold, so does another. Dear Hannah...

My Thoughts

This was my first book from the author and I LOVED it! Steeped in mystery and plenty of twists  it kept me guessing for a while. I normally am good at finding out who is the villan in the books but this one got me a bit stuck and I changed my mind a few time. I loved the people watching and library/ cafe moments as this is totally me!

It was a book within itself as Hannah the Australian author writing a book based in America. But the first layer is a fan named Leo is almost proof reading her work and providing her suggestions on how to adapt and change her novel. We get to read Leo's letters that he sends Hannah and I really liked this format. I find it interesting and helps breakdown some of the chapters. My worry was would this dissolve the flow and start to get confusing. But once I got to understand the concept/structure of the book it was easy to make that switch.

This appears all well and good, however we don't actually get to hear directly from Hannah until near the end. And as the story progresses Leos' correspondence start to take a different turn and you get a eery and dark undertone.

The second storyline is Hannahs novel she is writing about 4 women in a library. What I liked was the character development and we got to know each of them. Although we are limited to who the culprit could have been, I liked that we got to explore more about the characters within that time.

I thoroughly enjoyed this.
