The only thing for certain is the deaths were no accident.
Rayner High School once a prestigious school stands in ruins after such a terrible event.

A year later, a group of friends return to the abandoned school and their nightmare begins.

Something wants to get out and won’t take NO for an answer…

My Thoughts

A debut novel from the author and a fantastic one too! It was the perfect spooky read.

The story follows six friends: Lara, Caley, Ben, Jon, Sophie and Ben. All of them decide to revisit the abandoned and use the ouija board. Although not everyone in the group is wanting to do this but peer pressure means they go along with it, even with reservations. As they embark on this nightmare merely a few pages in, creepy sounds and noises  freak the group out and that's before they even open the ouija board. But this is only the start of what they have awoken and can they finish what they have started. Once they leave the school things at home are no better for them.

What I liked was, we get to go back 13 months, and start to get a bit of a back story of the students and teacher. That in-itself is a whole story condensed but brings an extra layer of horror. I think this gave a good insight and came at the right time in the book. The aftermath of using the board is trickling down in the group and it was such an intense read. I don't want to give much more away as it will be spoilers, but the group endure and sacrifice a-lot. The ending leaves with you with some questions.

Characters were really developed and I enjoyed the fluidity of the dialogue between the friends. You can sense the feelings and tension amongst the group.  A quick read but this book packs so much in! It was a page turner and made my heart race! Perfect spooky read.

About the author…

Zoé O’Farrell grew up in Watford but left the town life to live by the sea down at the White Cliffs of Dover.
She spends her days working with numbers before escaping in the evening to the world of words and movies. Her go-to relaxation is watching a scary movie or reading a terrifying book!

She is a book blogger and tour organiser just to keep her extra busy. When she is not reading or writing, you can usually find her watching Watford FC or at a gig. Failing that she can be found rolling her eyes at her husband as he acts the same age as her spitfire of a Mini-Me whilst separating her two cats.
