Meet Paterson and Clocks. The police detectives who never play by the rules.

YOU WON’T WANT TO PUT THIS DOWN, PAGE AFTER PAGE OF ACTION AND CLIFFHANGERS . . .

Paterson and Clocks are faced with a horrific crime scene. A mother lies brutally murdered in her ransacked home. Beside her are the bloodstained bodies of the two police officers who were first on the scene. In the bedroom are the victim’s two children, a six-year-old boy and a baby, slaughtered as they slept.

And then comes the sound of breaking glass from the next room.

The killer is still there . . .

Paterson sets off in hot pursuit across the rooftops. But after a desperate chase, the killer escapes.

The following day, another woman is found dead in her flat, her decapitated body carefully posed in her living room, her wrists pierced by crucifixes.

 Why were these women targeted?

Paterson and Clocks have never had to deal with a killer like this. A killer who shows no mercy. A killer who can’t be reasoned with. A killer who leaves no trace.

The bodies are piling up. To stop the carnage, the two detectives must break every rule in the book.

At the same time, married life is not turning out as Clocks had hoped, and his newly-discovered son has just given him some very bad news . . .

My Thoughts

My first read from the author and I was impressed. This is a series book but I didn't find it to hard to navigate the characters (but you do get a sense that alot has happened in the previous books) and read it is a stand alone fine but some may find it more difficult.

The 2 main characters Paterson and Clocks I felt were opposites of each other but I guess that is why the work well together. Paterson knows when to draw the line and start to be serious but had a let loose and funny side to him. Clocks however was more loud, sweary and lax in his approach which at times does grate on you, but the partnership worked well combining their characteristics together.  We also get to meet some other characters which add to the plot

This book isn't for the light hearted, straightaway we are in the depths of a gruesome murder and crime and read in details about that one and the ones to follow. But is fast paced with some really intense scenes that you just keep wanting to read ahead to find out what happens.

There is a alot of dialogue in this book which is a bit different but it helps with visualising it better I suppose during the conversations between the different characters.  We also have a few loose threads towards to the end which makes me think this will lead on to the next book.

I have really enjoyed this book and need to make a start from book 1 and play catch up!
