My Thoughts
The Blurb had me reeled in.
It was a different concept book that I hadn't read before but was certainly intrigued. But it also took me by surprise to the content of what is going to happen (aside from the revenge/ murder aspect of it) And I am glad I did read it. This debut book has been out for a few years so you may have come across it.
We go on the wildest rollercoaster ride with Carol! There is so much to unpack in this book but it is unfortunately one that will give away too many spoilers.
From the first few chapters there was so much information and you can feel the anger and emotional turmoil Carol has been going through and still is. But all that information/ description will soon start to make sense as it is all pieces to a huge puzzle.
She loses her father early on and this impacts her life in many ways. You start to empathise with Carol but as we delve further into this twisted plot you realise this is very much one sided story as is Carol romanticising and playing out her life in a negative way. My feelings for Carol wavered throughout the book. However she goes through lots of traumatic events in her life that shape the plot.
What I liked was there are soo many layers to this book and how you feel about the characters changes drastically from story to story. We get to meet different people from Carols life and some for better and some for worse.
The POV is split into two timelines; current with carol living in a manor house with land full of secrets and bones which comes under threat and second starting from 1969, we meet a teenage Carol who meets Frankie and the stories unfold. I did like the 2 timelines which provided good insight
A book not for the faint readers; very unsettling but also heartbreaking. But sooo good, I would recommend!
Thank you so much for closing the tour with this fabulous review x
