They find a cabin in the woods and think they’re finally safe. But little do they know, the nightmare is just beginning.

This camping trip is Chris’s last chance to keep his family together. His wife is gone and, after what he did, his daughters aren’t speaking to him. But things go wrong as soon as they get to the mountains.

Kayla is still so pissed at him, and Emma runs off into the woods. By the time they find her, she’s broken her ankle and there’s a bad storm rolling in.
They need shelter, fast.

They think they’ve found sanctuary when they come across an old farmstead. The woman inside welcomes them in out of the howling blizzard and straps up Emma’s ankle.

But the phone lines are down.
The roads are blocked.
And the woman in the cabin is not what she seems...

Will Chris and his daughters survive the night?

My Thoughts

Well this kept my heart racing!

We meet Chris, Kayla Emma and Clara and the chapters alternate between them providing their POV. I really like this and it was interesting to read a certain event but the characters had a different perceptive from it and it was done in a way that it wasn't repetitive, the emotions and sense of feelings were changed.

Chris takes his girls Emma and Kyla on a hiking trip following the death of their mother, who loved these kind of adventures. During the trip Emma sustains an injury which means the family are looking at refugee somewhere to sort Emma out.  They stumble upon a cabin and not long after the plot guess eerie really quick.

I liked how each character got to come to life and was allowed to be developed through their own emotions and story telling. You have different feelings for each of them and try and put the pieces together. Clara carries a sad story, through a traumatic childhood, a marriage to John that had consequences, her adult child Billy and her friendship with Sydney all come full circle in the events that unfold.  Sydney and Billy are a huge part of the story but their dialogue is woven into the chapters which was really well done.

The author did an excellent job in even creating the uneasiness of the cabin and its surrounding, almost creating a character in-itself. I also liked the final chapter is 10 years on from the event and there is a little surprise in there.

This book really is suspenseful and haunting all in one and I was surprised by it with a few twists in it.
