When you're dying, a lot goes through your mind.
Verity Casmere knows Dale Carmot kidnapped her sister Ashlee and is willing to risk it all for the truth.
Alternating timelines collide as psychiatrist Oscar de la Nuit returns to help Verity find peace before she dies.
Who would you live for?
Who would you die for?
My thoughts
This is the second book in the series, It is fine as a standalone but I would be intrigued to read the first just to get some more background on some of the continuing characters.
Oscar is asked to review Verity who has sustained a significant injury which she is adamant is caused by Dale. But Verity is also undergoing treatment for terminal illness.
Verity becomes central point to the story and the author did an excellent job in making your doubt and question Verity's choices and motives. One minute you empathise with her and the next you question if she is actually telling the truth or fabricating events. The timeline and chapters switch from the disappearance of Ashlee and the steps Verity is taking to find her sister.
We also get a POV and switch chapters from Oscar which I really liked. We learn that Oscar has resigned from his previous job. I suppose this is where reading book 1 would be be compelling as you would want to know more. But a colleague has asked Oscar to interview both Verity and Dale. We get some insight to Oscars personal life which was interesting and personable to the character.
The author has delivered a well paced psychological thriller that once you think you've got it, throws in new information to mislead you again!
We do got a few surprises and twists moments in the plot and I was able to guess before the reveal but it did keep me thinking and I had thought of a couple of different versions.
thank you so much for supporting the tour and for sharing this fab review x
