Blurb

Persuaded to abandon her glamorous life in London's Knightsbridge for the allure of a life in the sun, desperate Emily seeks a new life of luxury, sun-drenched days and, most needed of all, her financial freedom.

But, with family in tow, this isn’t a simple relocation…

Tensions mount, boundaries are tested, shortcomings confronted and priorities re-evaluated as the Ellis's stumble into unexpected roles, discover hidden talents and try to reconcile the fact that their previous way of life has all but ended.

Can Emily prevent catastrophe as she navigates a new country, customs and work-life balance? Will blood ties hold as nerves fray?

My Thoughts

This was an enjoyable read.

We come across a few characters that move the story along. Emily is a stay at home wife which means she is financially dependent on her husband. But Emily is very privileged and at times can come across unappreciative and narrow in her thoughts and approaches. But she seems to have perceived disposable monies so she spends as she sees right. That is until the move takes place and secrets and wrong doings start to come to light. Emily character comes to full force from being the person who use to take the back seat to now going into action to save her family.

Then we have Mark, Emilys Husband who all of a sudden decides that the best thing for his family is relocating to Portugal. Mark was not a likeable character to me, Very impulsive seemed to think only about himself and had this air of arrogance surrounding him. Marks job is a senior banker.  Mark was dishonest with Emily and really did not appreciate the effort she was putting in for the family.

Emily and Mark have a child who is now 22 but due to his parents was able to live a very privileged life in the high ranking of society. He is very spoilt and clearly is growing up to take 0 accountability of his actions or lack of.

We also get to meet Emilys best friend Mary. We get an insight into the lives of the rich and privileged and what here day to day looks like and how their actions and implications play out

There was a fair bit talking about tax evasion and legislation which did go on a bit so could have done with reducing that a bit. Yes parts where important to the plot and story and did need to be added.

So although some characters may irk you but do push on with it as there is some character development. I probably would have liked a bit more depth to them to make them a bit more likeable. But overall a good read.
