Blurb

After a kid's party faux-pas, mother Janine anonymously vents about her father-in-law's behaviour on internet forum Am I The Villain Here? When the community is invited to take sides the post goes viral, with mild-mannered Roy ending up in the national newspapers and sparking protests at his local library. REASONABLE PEOPLE explores how judging others reveals our deepest, most unreasonable selves - with Hulse's trademark heart, humour and humanity.

When simply reporting the facts can make or break fortunes, Gil has to ask himself: is he crossing the line between journalist and participant? Are his own conflicts of interest making him reckless? And in a world ruled by greed where nothing and no-one is too big to fail, what price will he pay for uncovering the truth?

My thoughts

Well this book was interesting, The book never lost it's pace, I was interested from start to finish and it had a good amount of humour to it as-well which was a nice bonus.

The story starts with Roy and it sets a really gentle scene of a retired man from the biscuit factory, now spending time at his home and renovating it. But we realise vert soon about the loss of his wife. His soul mate who he so sweetly talks about in the first few pages.

We soon after meet Janine. Janine has recently separated from her partner and her child's father who wants Janine to buy them out of the family home so he can have it. And we get introduced to the website that she does go and ironically she questions who even sends these questions in.

The website "Am I the Villan Here", although fictional to this book, there are ultimately are few similar pages in real time also. So I liked that aspect of the book, as it was not too far fetched and gave a good cushion to the story development.

This book touched on generational differences not only from the differences from social media but daily living and the assumptions on how we should do things.

I liked the characters, they had their own flaws and good parts to them.  They could leave you feeling frustrated or you agreed with parts of them. This is a very clever stance to the book and applause to the author for this. Because it goes back to the question of the website "Am I The Villan". Due to being readers you fall into the category of questioning and judging the characters and the choices they are making.  We analyse how we do judge people and form our own opinions and we believe that our opinion is the correct one. On reflection this part did make my brain itch a bit!!

The dialogue in the book was really good, it flowed really well.

I really enjoyed this book and will be purchasing a physical copy to re-read.
