Blurb

A bohemian party, a handsome artist - and murder

When Marjorie Swallow attends her first Bloomsbury party, she worries the conversation will be over her head. But when the evening ends in murder, she has more pressing concerns. Was the culprit really the handsome young artist she danced the night away with? And why did so many people want Betty Norris dead? From the garden squares of Bloomsbury to the seedy backstreets of Soho, trainee detective Marjorie goes on a perilous hunt for the killer.

Blackmail in Bloomsbury brings 1920s London to life in a classic murder mystery. It’s sure to delight fans of Agatha Christie, TE Kinsey and Magda Alexander.

My Thoughts

My first read from the author and it was wonderful. A perfect read for this time of cosy year.

I liked Marjorie's character, she was curious, intelligent and I believe that there more to her.

Marjorie's new job is being an assistant to a private investigator and of course that also makes her inquisitive. One evening when she is to join a party of people with the likes of professors, actors and artists nerves start to kick in as will she be able to carry a conversation and most importantly fit in.

As a murder takes place Marjorie soon puts her detective and observational skills to hand and uncovers some truths. Mrs Jameson Character was also an interesting one, she was someone who knew alot about others.. not surprising due to the nature of her job but nobody seemed to know much about her. She remained a mystery during the plot and this makes me think that there is more to her story.

I really liked how the author brought the 1920's of London to life. The descriptions allowed you to be transported there. What was cleverly done was the aspect that although there was lots of glitz and glam, there were also some traumatic times and that tied into the book.

Overall a really enjoyable read and I can't wait to see how the main characters stories start to develop and unfold in future books.
