Blurb

Gwawr is a celebrant who conducts non-religious naming ceremonies, weddings and funerals.

She's good at her job and proud of her reputation.

However, someone is working behind the scenes, a saboteur trying to destroy her career.

Only by revisiting the most difficult period of her life can Gwawr discover who is out to get her.

Help comes from unexpected sources and with the support of her clients, friends and family, Gwawr learns important lessons about the nature of love, loss, and the importance of trusting others.

My Thoughts

This book took me by surprise and it had much more to it then the blurb reads.

Gwawr character was one of the most emotional one that I have read in a while. The author did an intricate job of showing so much vulnerability and depth to Gwawr. Sometimes you want to give her a shake but then in context of what is happening you jut want to hug her.

We come to known a few people in her life, including families, people living in the community , friendships and partners and not every always having the best interest.

It is a tough read as it handles subject matters on suicide, loss, and alcoholism. But it is all done it a way that makes you realise you have to get out from the dark place and reflect on the harsh realities then can you try and make amends with your life. Some really sad sentences that did make me cry.

However there are some lighthearted moments in the book believe it or not so keeps the book floating nicely.

The book structure was interesting too, set in notebook style and chapters including entries from her work and clients. It did take me a while to get use to this but the chapters where long enough to make sense of it all and let it link together.

This is also a welsh translated book and overall really good.
