Would you lay down your life for a friend?

Budding playwright Allie pefers to keep her drama on the stage until she goes on a week's sixth-form trip to the stunning but treacherous Morcambe Bay where she meets a mysterious boy whose accent she can't place.

The more Allie learns about Mareno and the dangers that ensnare him, the more determined she becomes to write him a happy story. But the drama that unfolds is all too real, with an ending no one would seek.

My Thoughts

This book packed alot in and It did take me for surprise considering it was a YA Fiction (in a good way), I think my expectation was different. But the author has a way with words that this book oozed with so much raw emotion and the story telling and character development was fantastic.

The plot embodies the bay and Allie and her friends.

Allies character was stand out , she stood up for what she believed in, in the face of harshness and was a true friend when needed. Allie went through her trials with the divorce of her parents and moving places. But she was able to make new friends and new connections to get some balance back into her life.

This book holds lots of emotions all the way through from the first to last page. Lots of shocking moments and moments where I was in tears. The story touches on bereavement, friendships, love,  modern day slavery, immigration and racism.

The descriptive writing and story telling the author did a fantastic job in allowing the plot to be so vividly told.  It left me with questions and that lingering feeling of some real life horrors.
