Jane Tennison has worked hard to become the first female detective ever post to the infamous Flying Squad, or 'the Sweeney'. But the Dirty Dozen is a notorious boys' club, and Jane's new colleagues make it clear that they don't think a woman is up to the dangers of the job. Dealing with some of London's most ruthless armed criminals, who think the only good cop is a dead cop, is no joke. Determined to prove she's as good as the men, Jane discovers from a reliable witness that a gang is going to carry out a massive robbery. But she doesn't know who they are, or where and when they will strike . . .
My thoughts
Book 5 and it continues to be an epic journey with Jane Tennison!
Jane once again has gained another promotion and a new team. when she is the only female she knows there will be a challenged but she proves that she is the right person for the job. Her case on day 1 definitely puts her through a test.
I am glad that this was a slow pace book as there was ALOT going on. We get to meet lots of characters which can be a bit hard to keep track of but as it eases in you dont get too lost. As this in an intense crime there are plenty of interviews, and investigations which means twists and turns to keep the plot going.
One thing that has not shifted as we continue in the series is the sexism which I was hoping would start to ebb away a bit by now. I understand this stills happens but I found it a bit repetitive from the initial 4 books. Although it is nice to read how Jane is developing her career and policing skills.
We get to hear more from Janes family which was nice as they did play a big role in the previous books.
Another brilliant book and looking forward to the next instalment can case for Jane.
