Blurb

1935. Dora'son the first train to London, having smuggled herself out of the house in the middle of the night to escape her impending marriage. But unluckily for her, Dora's fiance is more persistent than most and follows.

As Dora alights at Paddington station, she is immediately forced to run from the loathsome Charles Silk-Butters. She ducks into the London Library to hide and it is there, surrounded by books, where she should feel most safe, that Dora Wildwood stumbles across her first dead body.

Having been thrown into the middle of a murder scene, it's now impossible to walk away. Indeed, Dora's certain she will prove an invaluable help to the gruff Detective Inspector Fox who swiftly arrives on the scene. For as everyone knows, it's the woman in the room who always sees more than anyone else: and no one more so than Dora herself...

My Thoughts

A first crime book and debut by the author and it was fun to read.

We go on a absolute journey with Dora as she tried to leave her old life and relationships behind to start afresh. Dora's character was strong in most parts as she stands up for her self and what she believes in.

All the characters within the book were well done and you get to know them and their relationship within the plot.  As the plot continues to develop and we get clues to who the suspect is  and you start to put it together. A few red herrings along the way does mean that you may guess wrong as the big reveal shows.

A well written descriptive book with a chatty narrative so you become enthralled in the conversations that take place. The plot unfolds at a good place that it keeps your attention without going too fast or slow.

As much as this was a crime read it had a good amount of humour element which helped elevate the book. I do hope we will be reading more of Dora soon.  I would recommend you give this a read!
