Blurb

THE LIES OF THE PAST . . .

When an anonymous tip lands on his desk, DS Adam Tyler is intrigued in spite of himself. The disappearance of a young mother twenty-four years ago was big news, but the case was never solved – this tantalizing new lead is something he simply can’t ignore. But the letter has set in motion a dangerous chain of events, and Tyler’s search for the truth soon leaves him fighting for his life.

. . . LIVE IN THE PRESENT

With Tyler out of action, DC Mina Rabbani must step up to lead the Cold Case Review Unit in his absence, retracing Tyler’s steps and uncovering his secrets to figure out what he was working on. But as she begins to put the pieces together, the case starts to hit frighteningly close to home. Without DS Tyler to protect her, Mina realizes that now she’s the one with hard choices to make.

And this time she’s on her own.

My Thoughts

This book is actually the 4th book in the series but the second one I had read. I read Nighthawking which I really enjoyed.

Tyler receives a note that leads him to an abandoned cinema where an accident takes place. Tylers colleague who had no idea about the note, now has to start uncovering what the note that lead to the accident Mina is met with consistent no's as everyone tells her it was just unfortunate, however she has this feeling it was more than that and sets off delving deeper into this case.

I enjoyed the split POV we read. We learn DS Tyler is removed from a case and DC Mina has to step in. In the present we learn some parts of the case as Mina tries to uncover what lead to Tyler becoming more involved in a case. From the past we hear from Tyler as we start to learn the tangle of lies, deceit and threat that cause actions and consequences on the present.

I really liked the character development as they were engaging and fiery which lead to plenty of twists and turns to keep you engaged with the plot.  Also as someone who has not read the full series, I liked that the author continued to give us backstories of Tyler and Mina, that way not too much information was lost about the characters in a series.

The title of the book is skill fully written and we get a brief insight to this at the the start of the book which actually goes back 24 years! I wont say too much on this!

This was a clever, thrilling and engaging read that I would recommend.
