Blurb

Careful what you search for, you may just find it.

Kory and his expecting wife win an auction at the estate sale of an old explorer. Buried at the bottom
of a box is a casefile outlining a rash of disappearances from the nineties when an entire party of
hunters vanished while at their hunting shack. They were never seen again.

Inviting his friend and mentor, Professor Frank Colista, and others, Kory sets off for a casual long
weekend of exploring the mystery onsite with little expectation of finding anyone or anything.
However, echoes of the past return. When one of their factions disappears without a trace, Kory and
Colista fear the past may repeat itself. As the others catch grotesque glimpses of the disappeared,
they know for sure. Then the deaths start.

When a savage, unexpected snowstorm sets in, the disappearances and ungodly sightings of the deceased ramp up, and an old woman rambles about end-of-days and sacrifice. In the hours to follow, only Kory’s dogged determination and Colista’s special set of skills can save them and Kory’s unborn child.

My Thoughts

If you’re in need of a horror or spooky read this season, I’d definitely recommend picking this one up.

The plot is intriguing, and the blurb does a great job of teasing the suspense without giving too much away. I appreciated that the author didn’t drag out the beginning — the story dives into the mystery quickly, setting up the tension nicely. As more people begin to disappear, you can’t help but question what’s really going on and who’s behind it all.

I enjoyed reading about the characters; they’re well-developed and interesting enough to keep you invested. The plot builds steadily, and just when you think you’ve figured it out, the ending takes a surprising turn. There’s a character who seems to have appeared in a previous book, and while his background wasn’t fully explored here, it didn’t make the story hard to follow.

Some scenes are quite dark and not for the faint-hearted — the descriptions get grim as the story progresses — but as a horror fan, I found it intense without being overly gory.

If you enjoy horror stories filled with demons, magicians, and mysterious disappearances, this one’s for you.
