You think your family’s weird?

He promised me forever. But I might not make it to “I do.”

I’m marrying Stephen at Shadowmoor Lodge. His family’s luxurious estate deep in the frozen Surrey Hills. No phone signal, no neighbours, just Stephen’s controlling mother and a family that loves hunting, and watches me like I’m the entertainment.

I open my suitcase, but it’s not my stuff.

Inside is the exact outfit a woman called Charlotte Walker was wearing when she vanished a week ago.

Six days until my wedding. And already I want to run.

My Thoughts

This was my first read from this author, and it did not disappoint. As always, Joffe Books delivers!

Set against the eerie backdrop of an isolated lodge, cut off from civilisation, the story immediately creates a sense of unease. Ivy soon realises she may not have made the right choices and must find a way out before it’s too late.

Trust is a rare thing in this book. As Ivy uncovers more clues, the plot grows increasingly sinister. We’re given a backstory of Ivy and Stephen and how they met, which serves as a strong introduction to their relationship. However, it quickly becomes clear that Stephen isn’t fully revealing who he truly is. As conversations between him and Ivy shift, she realises she doesn’t really know him at all—he’s no longer the person she thought he was.

I really enjoyed the author’s writing style and how they engaged the reader throughout. I found myself wanting to uncover more about the family, their hidden secrets, and the truths slowly slipping through the cracks.

Overall, this was a gripping and unsettling read, and I would definitely recommend it.
