Incarnate- Blog Tour
The blurb was enough to entice me into reading this book, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to do so.
From what I can gather, this is a reworking of a previous version, and the author has written many books in between. This was my first time reading anything by them, and it was a good introduction.
From the very start, the plot carries a persistent creepy and eerie atmosphere that you just can’t shake off — almost like waking from a disturbed sleep back into reality. We follow the five main characters, along with the doctor, researchers, and others, each with their own point of view. This gives good insight into what they are doing, thinking, and feeling, although I did occasionally find myself getting a bit lost with the number of POVs.
I felt the story started off slowly, but it really picked up around the final third. The author does a great job describing scenes and settings, as well as blurring the lines between what is real and what isn’t, which creates a strong sense of unease. As the plot develops, we learn more about the characters, and this builds a growing sense of dissociation and madness within them.
This felt like a very different kind of book from what I usually read, and I appreciated that uniqueness. I would definitely recommend it.
