Blurb

A nightmare jolts Debs awake. She leaves the kids tucked up in their beds and goes downstairs. There's a man in her kitchen, holding a knife. But it's not an intruder. This is her husband Marc, the father of her children. A man she no longer recognises.

Once their differences were what drew them together, what turned them on. Him, the ex-army officer from a good family. Her, the fitness instructor who grew up over a pub. But now these differences grate to the point of drawing blood. Marc screams in his sleep. And Debs hardly knows the person she's become, or why she lets him hurt her.

Neither of them is completely innocent. Neither is totally guilty. Marc is taller, stronger, and more vicious, haunted by a war he can't forget. But he has no idea what Debs is capable of when her children's lives are at stake... A completely addictive story of a relationship built on passion, poisoned by secrets and violence. Perfect for readers of Blood Orange and Big Little Lies.

My Thoughts

After reading Call Me Mummy, I was blown away by the authors style of story telling. So no doubt I was super excited for Nasty Little Cuts and it was brilliant.

We follow the lives of Debs, Marc, Dolly and Pat-Pat and the fateful incident before Christmas eve. We also get a bit insight from Lulu the family dog which helps soften some of the narrative and It took me by surprise as I certainly was not expecting it. I really liked the switch between past and present and from the early parts of Debs and Marcs life. They are complete opposites yet seemed to work at certain part of their lives.  But as they have grown, their past lives and trauma catches up with them both. Work, affairs, children, abuse, mental illness and resentment seeps in and leads to the fateful night in the kitchen.

The chapters are short and snappy which I liked as It kept me engaged. There is description of domestic abuse threaded through out the book, that brings out the dark side of the couple and consequently the lead up to Christmas

Debs makes a final decision in the kitchen whist the children are sound asleep upstairs and after Marcs actions that will alter their lives as a family forever. I really want to know what happens to Debs after!

Another astounding book from the author.
