Camden mortuary technician Cassie Raven returns to solve another ingenious forensic mystery. Perfect for fans of Tess Gerritsen and Kathy Reichs.
Mortuary technician Cassie Raven believes the last thoughts of the dead linger like static in the air...

Cassie has always had a strange affinity with death, ever since her parents were killed in a car crash when she was four. At least that's what she grew up believing...

But that was a lie. Cassie's father is alive. He was convicted of murdering her mother and spent years behind bars. Now he's out - and he's looking for her.

He swears he didn't do it. And Cassie wants to believe him.

To find the truth, she must turn detective. As she seeks answers, help is to be found in inexplicable places - for the dead are ready to talk.

My Thoughts

This is the second book in the Cassie series. I wish I had read the first book before starting this one as it provides so much backstory and unravels some of the plot. But nonetheless this was a fantastic read.

The plot is very character driven by Cassie which I really liked as you can almost get into the mindset of Cassie, what her moves are, what she is contemplating and why. Cassie was a fascinating character , not only which she quirky throughout the book  but also demonstrated that she led through intuition by being observant and also displayed a feisty side by being rebellious when she wanted to be heard.

Cassie is working in Camden with Kim and lives with her grandmother Weronika. Cassie is helping her grandmother recover from a stroke but also has lived with her since her parents death. Until  she learns that in fact her father murdered her mother and he is now being released from prison as his sentence ends. Cassie childhood memories are now being clouded with this new found information. Work is starting to feel heavy for Cassie as that was her safe place as she has this fascination for death and bodies, first she is having to deal with an accusation and secondly 2 new comers Jason and a professor who make every second hard work.

After a case that she has to work in is dismissed she feels hurt that there is more to the story of this young man and set about with the help of Archie to filter the truth. Coinciding with this case she learns the truth about her parents. She finally meets her father who is adamant he is innocent and he didn't murder her mother. She sets about with her friend DS Phyllida Flyte to in an attempt to learn what actually happened that night to her mother. I liked the relationship between theses two as they are complete opposites but work so well as a team. Cassie starts to find some holes in the truth as she starts to investigate that highlight that her father could be telling the truth.

Also does Weronika know more than she is willing to share. As the story and plot starts to unfold it is gripping and interesting. Cannot wait to see what book 3 holds.
