Blurb

In these tense, macabre stories, bodies fall from the sky, perfect nails conceal grisly secrets and violence pulses behind gleaming façades. From hellish visions to obsessive relationships, acclaimed author Agustina Bazterrica takes us to the dark heart of human desires and fears.

Shocking, brutal, yet glinting with sharp humour, Nineteen Claws and a Black Bird is a breathtaking dive into human monstrousness from a master of contemporary horror.

My Thoughts

The author gives us 20 short stories. Which appears like a lot and the worry is will it be rushed. But the writing style the author provides and the intensity and brutality of some of the stories I felt like was a perfect mix of balance.

This isn't a read for the faint hearted that is for sure. We deep dive into some dark, dangerous and horror based stories that will send a shiver down your spine. Some chapters really do want you reading more and I wish they were a full story in themselves. Which I think will always be a barrier for books in short story format.

What was interesting was although we read some really haunting and dark stories the author had a unique way of making some of relevant and humorous at the same time. I definitely preferred some stories over others which is a given with this structure.

If you like reading horror stories then this one really is for you and it won't disappoint.

I haven't read the authors book Tender Is The Flesh but think I will add it to my list as I was really impressed with the writing in this one.
