A hotshot lawyer with the world at her feet. A stranger determined to destroy her.
Hotshot defense lawyer Amber Dennis has it all. She's a successful attorney and the proud owner of a luxurious new condo, an expensive car, and a fat bank account. Not to mention a blossoming relationship with the gorgeous David Grant.
Amber's perfect life is shattered when she starts receiving threatening emails. At first, she brushes them off. After all, she can't help but make a few enemies in her line of work.
But when the threats become more real, she can no longer ignore them. Someone out there wants to destroy her. Who could it be, and why are they targeting her?
As her world implodes, Amber decides she's not going down without a fight. She's determined to find out who is threatening her and why.
What she doesn’t realise is her stalker is a lot closer than she thinks. And convinced that Amber has wronged them terribly, they'll stop at nothing to make her pay the ultimate price.
My Thoughts
This was my second read from the author and I continued to be impressed!
I dont think I have been this frustrated with a character in a long time! Amber Dennis is one heck of a character that if this was a TV show you'd likely to be shouting at it! The first few chapters you route for her, she's worked hard in her career to get to where she wants to be, she's ambitious but then the author adds a few dialogues in there that make you question how genuine Amber really is. And it is not long in that you start to not like her very much as she is very arrogant and will do anything to get to where she wants to be and can be very rude to those around her.
This means that I didn't have much sympathy for her as I felt that she didn't really learn or take away much from her experiences. This could led to a potential disconnect from the character as she is very abrasive. The plot does pick up really fast and 3/4 we find out is responsible and the consequences that come from the dramatic events. A few other events take place, damage to her property, Amber being on edge and also a tape that comes to the surface.
I really liked that the last few chapters continued a few months after the event and catch up with Amber. Do you get to read about a newly changed person, absolutely not but she is getting more of a routine and still has big plans.
I liked that the intensity of the book led it to being fast paced and we got a few twists throughout the plot.
My favourite quote from this book will be
“It was time to stop focusing on the negative. I am here now”
