Blurb

Three sisters find themselves lost in a storm at night, and seek safety at Moirthwaite Manor, where their mother once worked. They are shocked to find the isolated mansion that loomed so large through their troubled childhoods has long been abandoned. Drawing straws to decide who should get help, one sister heads back into the darkness. With the siblings separated, the deadly secrets hidden in the house finally make themselves known and we learn the unspeakable secret that binds the family together.

My Thoughts

My first read from the author and I really enjoyed it.

what I liked was that it was a slow burner but in doing so made me take time in really getting to know and understand the characters.

We meet the three sisters: Nina, Lizzie and Asia (oldest to youngest) who are on a car journey on the way from having a birthday lunch with their father. We learn early on that their mother has died. Due to the weather they stumble across a manor that holds some memories and secrets from them.

Each sister different but share something deep down the same. What I liked was that the chapters flipped from past to present and we also got time stamps which helped tie the book in for me. As the plot progresses we get a better understanding about the attachment of the manor and the link to the sisters.

We also get to hear from their mother which adds this extra layer to the book and interesting to read. I also enjoyed learning about the dynamic within the families and leading to how the sisters feel today.

Through the eeriness and chilling atmosphere of the manor and the family dynamics this was a really enjoyable read.
