Maria always wanted a family. Now she’s found one.

Imogen has never been so busy – she’s juggling two jobs, has a young family and now she’s pregnant again.

Enter Maria, the perfect housekeeper. Hard working and capable, she seems like the ideal solution to Imogen's chaotic life.

But Maria isn’t at all what she seems – she has a sinister agenda of her own.

Little by little, she installs herself at the heart of Imogen’s family – doing the school run, cooking meals, caring for Imogen’s little girl.

But once she has won the family’s trust, Maria starts to do some digging.

And discovers that Imogen has been keeping a terrible secret, a secret which Maria threatens to reveal unless Imogen starts to run this home the way Maria sees fit.

Caught between a rock and a hard place, Imogen has no choice but to comply.

A terrible mistake.

Because as the full scale of Maria’s horrifying plan becomes apparent, Imogen realises that everything she holds dear – her marriage, her family, her friends – all may fall victim to The Homemaker.

My thoughts

I have read a few books from the author and I am never disappointed

POV is from Imogen and Maria in alternate chapters and I liked that the chapters were a good length too and not too short or long. Therefore giving enough detail before the next chapter.

When Imogen hired Maria she expected life to be more seemless bur instead more twists and turns took place.  The Letwin family consists of  Josh who is Imogen's husband and is a dentist and Imogen works as a consultant and now opening a B&B and their child Ava and pregnant again. And they appear to live a life fullness.

However Marias characters is one that you really want to hate but the author did a god job in feeding us little amounts of details to keep guessing Marias actions and choices even if they were deplorable at times.

I dont want to share too much as this plot packs so much and it will be a spoiler but be prepared!
Accidents, baby loss, family dysfunction and mental health are just a few topics this book goes through. And the final chapters ties most of it together.

This book wasted no time in getting eerie very quick, I would definitely recommend picking this up!
