Blurb

She left without a trace… not even a crumb

For student and waitress, Sylvia Morelle, it’s just another day at the French café in Covent Garden – that is, until her beloved elderly regular, Mrs Ida Laine, mysteriously disappears. As weeks go by with no sign of the glamorous Parisian, the young journalist in training begins her own investigation, only to unearth far more than she could ever have imagined.

Where is Ida Laine? And what is she running from?

My Thoughts

This was a small book but it packed so much in and was a delight to read.

An intergenerational friendship that formed on a Sunday and now Sylvia has not seen Ida and the more she ruminates on this fact the more questions and her own versions start to appear. The story follows through as Sylvia goes to find and using her journalistic techniques finds out more than she anticipated.

The POV is told through a few different characters, but the main focus was on Ida and Sylvia.I really liked how the author took time in letting the characters come through within the plot. The development of each one and their story came through slowly and you got to form a connection with some of them.

The plot was filled with intrigue, love, loss, friendship and grief. The more we learn and understand wheat is happening, unveils a new emotion and new feeling towards the character. We do get to learn about where Ida is gone and why she left and the impact this has on Sylvia.

This is  a descriptive visual book that I was transported to join them and it was memorable.

I would recommend it and heartwarming roller coaster of  a plot. .
