I took my twin sister’s life. By life, I mean I replaced her.

I’m Beth. Or I was, until the crash.

I’m a driving instructor, a woman clinging to the frayed edges of a failing marriage. We’ve been trying for a baby for ten years now, and the strain of it all is destroying us.

My twin sister Cate has everything I’ve ever wanted — three perfect children, an adoring husband, a beautiful home.

She’s stunning, mesmerising, larger-than-life. The world revolves around her. I’m the paler, watered-down version.

Then comes the accident. A twisted wreck on the motorway. A single, devastating moment.

And a choice.

They thought I was Cate. And I didn’t correct them.

Now I’m living her life. Sleeping in her bed. Raising her child. But secrets have a way of clawing to the surface.

It turns out Cate’s life wasn’t as perfect as I thought. In fact, I’m discovering that I never really knew my sister at all. And the worst thing of all . . . someone knows what I’ve done.

The lies are piling up. The guilt is closing in. Someone is determined to destroy me. Is my new baby worth the price?

My Thoughts

This was a really good psychological thriller — intense, emotional, and full of twists.

We meet twin sisters Beth and Cate who, when it comes to building a family, couldn’t be more different due to their individual circumstances. After the sisters are involved in an accident, Beth takes the opportunity to assume Cate’s identity. She believes she can finally have the perfect life her twin seemed to live — but soon discovers the truth and the lies behind that illusion.

I appreciated that the author included a trigger warning for sexual assault, giving readers an idea of the sensitive themes ahead. Beyond that, the story explores infertility, abuse, family dynamics, and complex relationships.

The characters were intense and deeply layered. The author did an excellent job of helping readers understand the twin sisters — their bond, their conflicts, and the ways they interact with those around them. It also reveals how harsh and vulnerable they can be, both toward others and themselves. As the story unfolds, the true nature of those around them comes to light, adding even more emotional weight and tension.

This was a dark, twisty thriller that kept me hooked from start to finish. I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it to fans of psychological suspense.
