Blurb

The house was meant to be a fresh start.

But from the moment we arrived at 13 Rutland Terrace, something felt wrong.

My daughter refuses to go near the cellar. The dog won't stop barking. And then I found the photo — a family just like ours. Only the woman in it looks terrified.

They lived here before us.

Now I can’t stop thinking about her.

Because this house is keeping secrets.

And my husband . . . isn’t who he used to be.

My Thoughts

This is a creepy, unsettling family drama that kept me engaged from start to finish.

As Lucy’s husband, Matt, moves the family into a new home for what is supposed to be a fresh start, Lucy can’t shake the feeling that this was the wrong decision — especially as strange and unsettling events begin to occur. Meanwhile, Matt becomes increasingly controlling in his insistence that they stay, leaving Lucy questioning what is really happening and who she can trust.

I really enjoyed the dual POV from Lucy and Rachel. Hearing both of their voices added depth to the story and made it fascinating to explore their similarities and differences. It gave the narrative a layered perspective that kept me invested in their experiences and perspectives.

The author also included several subplots that tied beautifully into the main story. These unexpected twists added complexity to the plot and kept me guessing in ways I didn’t anticipate.

What makes this book stand out is that it isn’t just about mystery — it delves into betrayal, complex emotions, and thought-provoking situations. The story feels both suspenseful and psychologically rich, making it more than just a typical thriller.

I particularly appreciated the slow build-up of tension and the creepy, atmospheric setting. It really drew me in and kept the sense of unease simmering throughout.

Overall, this was a gripping and emotionally charged read that I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys family dramas with a sinister, suspenseful edge.
