Blurb

Inspector Henry Tibbett is taking a much-needed holiday from his job at Scotland Yard with his wife Emmy. Headed for a spot of skiing in the Italian Dolomites and some first-class people-watching, Tibbett’s worries blissfully melt away.

That is, until a fellow guest who boards the ski lift alive at the top of the mountain is found dead when the lift touches bottom. Another dead body turns up, and then another, and it becomes clear that Murder has come to the mountain.

My Thoughts

This was my first read from this author, and I really enjoyed it. As the first book in a series, it was great to start from the beginning and get fully immersed in the story.

It was a fun, old-school-style mystery. The plot was laid out like a puzzle, and you really had to pay attention to figure out who was who. The author did a great job of not rushing the story, instead providing complex backstories and deeply hidden secrets that kept me motivated to keep reading.

I really liked the characters—even the “bad guys.” They were layered and nuanced in a way that made you want to understand them and their tactics. There does come a point where quite a few characters are introduced, which can feel a bit overwhelming at times, but I didn’t mind this.

The setting and background were unique and woven seamlessly into the plot, helping to deepen the overall story. The writing style was also interesting and added to the experience.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read book two!
