My Thoughts 

This was such a clever and deliciously twisted revenge thriller. I went into it expecting a story about betrayal, but I certainly wasn’t prepared for just how far the characters would go once everything began to unravel.

The story moves between different periods of Amelia’s life, with her name changing depending on where we are in the timeline. At first, this could sound confusing, but it actually worked incredibly well and gradually becomes part of the mystery. We also get Ethan’s perspective later in the story, which adds another dimension and gives us a very different insight into what is happening.

One of my favourite things about the book was the way the present-day narrative draws the reader in. Mia almost feels as though she is confiding in you personally, revealing information in carefully measured pieces rather than giving everything away at once. Each revelation raised more questions, particularly about what had happened in the past and how it had shaped the woman Mia had become.

And then there is the revenge...

What begins as the story of a seemingly ordinary, kind-hearted woman slowly develops into something much darker. The manipulation, cruelty and psychological torment throughout the book were difficult to watch at times, but they also made it incredibly hard to put down. Watching Amelia change as grief and betrayal consume her was fascinating, particularly as her plans became increasingly calculated and unpredictable.

I found myself constantly questioning who I could trust and trying to work out where the story was heading. There are plenty of twists along the way, but what I enjoyed most was how the pieces eventually came together. The final revelations genuinely surprised me, and by the end I was looking at Mia in a completely different light.

There is also something particularly unsettling about seeing how easily a person can be pushed beyond the limits of what they once believed they were capable of. Amelia’s transformation is at the heart of the story, and while you may not agree with everything she does, it is difficult not to understand how she reached that point.

Overall, this was a fast-paced, gripping and wonderfully sinister thriller, packed with secrets, revenge and psychological games. The dual timeline worked brilliantly, the characters kept me guessing, and the ending left me with plenty to think about.

If you enjoy revenge thrillers where the line between victim and villain becomes increasingly blurred, this is definitely one to add to your reading list!
